The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has introduced a proposal to drastically cut nicotine levels in cigarettes and other combustible tobacco products. This measure aims to reduce the addictive potential of cigarettes, potentially leading to lower smoking rates and improved public health.
If implemented, the rule would decrease nicotine content by approximately 95%, from an average of 13 milligrams per cigarette to just 0.07 milligrams, making cigarettes less addictive for users.
