Non-tobacco nicotine products include products such as e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches. Researchers examined whether dependence on these products was associated with outcomes after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy, a common type of knee surgery.
After matching patients with similar characteristics, each group included 9,594 people. Those with non-tobacco nicotine dependence had higher rates of emergency and outpatient visits, pneumonia, opioid prescriptions and later meniscus surgery.
