Constraining electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) nicotine dose by controlling nicotine flux at a limited puff duration

Nicotine flux, the rate of electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) nicotine emission, is important in determining ENDS abuse liability. However, flux does not account for user behavior, including puff duration. Along with nicotine flux, puff duration limits the dose of nicotine that can be inhaled.

Smoking-Related Interstitial Lung Disease and Emphysema

Diagnosis and treatment of patients with smoking-related lung diseases often requires multidisciplinary contributions to optimize care. Imaging plays a key role in characterizing the underlying disease, quantifying its severity, identifying potential complications, and directing management. The primary goal of this article is to provide an overview of the imaging findings and distinguishing features of smoking-related lung diseases, specifically, emphysema/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory bronchiolitis-interstitial lung disease, smoking-related interstitial fibrosis, desquamative interstitial pneumonitis, combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema, pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis, and E-cigarette or vaping related lung injury.

Generational Immigration Status Modifies the Association Between Psychosocial Distress and Substance Use Among Alternative High School Students

Purpose: Alternative high schools (AHS) are designed to provide individualized education, more flexible scheduling, and smaller class sizes for students referred out of traditional high school. AHS students report higher levels of substance use (SU) and face disproportionately higher levels of trauma and toxic stress than their traditional high school peers. We sought to examine whether generational immigration (GenIm) status modifies the association of mental health and SU among AHS students using a longitudinal study of 1,060 Southern California AHS students.

Formaldehyde and the Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin-1 Contribute to Electronic Cigarette Aerosol-induced Endothelial Dysfunction in Mice

Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) aerosol exposures can induce endothelial dysfunction (ED) in healthy young humans and animals. Thermal degradation of ENDS solvents, propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin (PG: VG), generates abundant formaldehyde (FA) and other carbonyls.

Psychosocial stressors of adolescents with E-cigarette, or vaping, product-use associated lung injury: A qualitative study

Background and objectives: Adolescent electronic cigarette (EC) use has reached epidemic rates and has been linked to numerous mental health and psychosocial stressors (PS). There is limited qualitative data on PS for adolescents with e-cigarette, or vaping, product-use associated lung injury (EVALI), a severe complication of EC use.

Day-level correlates of nicotine and cannabis vaping among young adults in the United States

Over the past two decades, vaping has increased in popularity among young adults. Yet, little is known about the daily activities or contexts associated with vaping behavior. The current study examined whether nicotine vaping, cannabis vaping, and dual-substance vaping (i.e., vaping both nicotine and cannabis) fluctuated in tandem with alcohol use and activities on a given day.
